National Fruits and Vegetables Report Shows North Dakotans Should Eat More Fruits and Vegetables for Good Health

The State Indicator Report on Fruits and Vegetables, 2009, released 9/29/09 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), shows that North Dakotans should eat more fruits and vegetables for good health. Only 29 percent of adults in North Dakota meet the daily fruit recommendation and 24 percent meet the vegetable recommendation. The State Indicator Report highlights how partners at the state and local level can help create policies and environments that encourage and promote healthy eating such as getting produce directly from farm to school, starting local and/or state-level food policy councils, or increasing the availability of fruits and vegetables in schools. To read more about North Dakota and environmental supports, see the State Indicator Report on Fruits and Vegetables, 2009 North Dakota Action Guide (pdf).
