Welcome to A Year of Fruits and Veggies

  • Celebrate the seasons!
  • Experience fruit and veggies in new ways
  • Obtain new information about produce, and
  • Choose and find North Dakota-grown fruits and veggies.

A Year of Fruits and Veggies is a program to provide information on-line to adults in worksite settings. The program goal is to help people choose to eat more fruits and vegetables. The program was developed by Healthy North Dakota in response to North Dakota businesses asking for a low-cost, low-time investment, easy-to-administer healthy eating program for their employees. More than three out of four North Dakota adults do not eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables to reduce risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke and some forms of cancer.

Program Overview

Each month, the worksite wellness coordinator will e-mail a web page link or document to program participants. The document will provide information on that month’s featured fruit(s) and/or veggie(s) including:

  • how to select and enjoy fruits and  veggies in all forms - fresh, dried, canned or frozen
  • storing and preparing for flavor and safety
  • promoting North Dakota-grown produce by sharing how to find and participate in farmers markets, Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA), community gardens, and growing your own fruits & veggies
  • other healthy living information such as guidelines and suggestions for increasing physical activity

Three brief surveys are included to evaluate participation and changes in fruit and vegetable consumption by participants.
